TORONTO, CANADA -

Perdita Felicien captured her ninth Canadian title at Canadian Track and Field Championships taking the 100m hurdles in 12.72, three hundredths of a second faster than Lopes-Schliep who was a close second in 12.75.

The big showdown P vs. P in the KPMG 100m hurdles was sensational. Both Pickering’s Perdita Felicien and Whitby’s Priscilla Lopes-Schliep lived up to the billing.

A number of athletes also left their marks on the track and in the field today as the 2010 Canadian Track and Field Championships in Toronto. Heading into the Championships Calgary, Alberta’s Sam Effah (U of C Athletics) held the country’s fastest time running 10.06 over 100-metres; he cemented himself as Canada’s fastest man capturing his first national title in 10.21. In the women’s 100-metre dash Orillia, Ontario’s Toyin Olupona (Elite Edge) ran 11.46 to capture her 4th consecutive (5th overall) Canadian Championship.

In wheelchair racing, T54 classification, Guelph’s Josh Cassidy captured two titles today by racing to the finish in the 800-metres in 1:46.86 and also finishing first in the 1500-metres in a time of 3:22.50. Cassidy finished these championships with three gold medals capturing the 5000-metres earlier this week.

In the women’s hammer throw Sultana Frizell of Perth, ON (Ottawa Lions T.F.C.) re-captured her title throwing a Canadian Championship record of 71.89-metres; Sultana was the Champion in 2007 and 2008. In the men’s high jump Derek Drouin of Sarnia, ON (Sarnia Athl. SW) finished with his first national title jumping 2.24-metres
