Dudley Tahir wins Coach of the champs title

July 16, 2010, Kingston, Jamaica

Coaches Dudley Tahir, Sebastian Naraysingh and Owen Henry displayed a great show of unity and sportsmanship at the 10th Annual Sports Championships, held at St. Andrew High School for Girls, Kingston, Jamaica.

All three primary and junior high school coaches replaced their school’s coaching hats and became head coaches for several athletes from various children homes, schools, churches, community groups, service clubs and colleges and universities. Dudley Tahir, assistant coach at Central Branch All Age became the victorious coach for Team Faith and was voted Coach of the Champs. Sebastian Naraysingh head school for Central Branch worked hard as coach for Team Hope, while Coach Owen Henry of Windward Road Primary and Junior High renewed his duties as head Coach for Team Love. Henry who was Coach of the Champs for 2009 placed runner-up Coach of the Champs.

In a truly uncommon show of team spirit and friendship amidst friendly rivalry and cordial banter the team of three coaches lay aside school affiliations and the quest to win in favour of playing a vital role in ensuring the proper running and officiating at Sports Champs 2010. The goal of the united team of coaches was to unearth and showcase the best athletes. The coaches all wanted to offer all athletes the opportunity to perform at the best irrespective of which of the three teams they were assigned.

The coaches were all too happy for the format of Sports Champs. All athletes from the various institutions all competed under the banners of teams Faith, Hope and Love. The format allowed more of their students to compete in multiple events. It truly was a showcase of the best athletes from the 68 representational institutions. This was a wide and diverse team of athletes. The institutions represented were: 2 children’s homes, 5 prep schools, 24 primary and junior high schools, 14 high schools, 6 service/community clubs, 10 churches and 7 colleges and universities.

Sports Champs is a unique track meet. With other track meets athletes compete for respective educational institutions, clubs or their countries. But Sports Champs is all about the three teams, Faith, Hope and Love. Athletes plan their entire season around this meet eager to get a chance to participate.

In several events it was a local derby among athletes from the same institutions. There was the local showdown as athletes from Central Branch All Age School competed keenly against athletes from Windward Road Primary and Junior High.

At the end of the meet Central Branch was the victorious school of the champs and Windward Road second. Jamaica Christian Boys Home and Alpha Boy Homes were also locked into keen rivalries. Jamaica Christian Boys proved superior and emerged home of the champs.

Winning Coach of Team Faith Dudley Tahir expressed deep satisfaction about the unity and cooperation of all the coach at Sports Champs. “The unity and cooperation today, is simple wonderful. I am glad that there is at least one meet that we can work together for the benefit of the athletes and the smooth running of the meet” he stated.

Coach Henry, was happy for the outcome of sports champs. “First of all we must be happy that we had the opportunity to compete at sports champs.
