Nicole Mullen's powerful ministry at Gospel Showcase

Nicole C Mullen, belted out her composition Redeemer to a jam-packed audience at the Ranny Williams Entertainment Centre at the Gospel Songwriters' Showcase on Tuesday night. There was no doubt was left in anyone's mind why the song captured the hearts of Christians and non-Christians alike and won the coveted Song of the Year at last year's Dove Music Awards.
For a song to be well-received and given the distinction of Song of the Year requires more than just good writing. It requires precise musical arrangement and the appropriate singer to make the composition one of high quality.
In a very entertaining segment which followed a lengthy band change (believe me, it was worth the wait), Mullen ministered the gospel in song with choreographed dance routines which she and her four dancers executed beautifully much to the delight of the teens and young adults in the audience.
As Mullen, opened this segment with her gospel hit Freedom with an Aaliyah-like dance routine (without the booty shaking of course) the concert was transformed into a dance party as patrons dropped all their inhibitions and moved in time with the fast-paced music. Mullen's story-telling antics which she cleverly used to introduce each of her songs during her performance evoked emotions among members of the audience. Using modern day street talk she re-told the story of Job found in the Old Testament to introduce Redeemer. This version caught the full attention of the audience.
Noreta Lewis, winner of the Jamaica Cultural Development Commission's (JCDC) 2000 Gospel Song Competition, also had an high-energy performance as she skipped and jumped on stage in her stiletto heels. Along with her winning entry By and By which she sang, the firebrand entertainer also ventured into the area of dub poetry, giving a tribute to women with an original composition of Woman.
In their usual impeccable style, The Portmore Vision Choir did a soul-stirring performance by performing a medley of Praise and worship songs. Their black uniform with African kente cloth draped around their necks added an elegant touch to their presentation
Also attired in full black was Gifton Smith and the Hummingbirds, another winner in the JCDC Gospel Song Competition.
Although dressed in a leather trench coat as his dancehall counterparts would on a stage show, Smith's message was remote from dancehall as he shared his many experiences with the Creator. He also excited the crowd with some praise and worship songs.
Captivating is the word to best describe critically-acclaimed saxophonist, Dean Fraser, as the audience hung on to every note that uttered from his saxophone. Fraser, dressed in full black, played the all-time favourite gospel classics I Must Tell Jesus and God is Truly Amazing made popular by Deniece Williams. Fraser who is known for his playing with wind instruments lent his voice to his friends, four female singers who performed an a cappella rendition of Love originally recorded by Kirk Franklin and the Family. As they harmonised each note precisely, a standing ovation by the audience was in order.
Glacia Robinson, who stormed the local gospel scene in 1998 with her winning entry, Hold My Hand, now an anthem for many Jamaicans was not present on Tuesday to showcase her talent, due to illness. A tribute was paid to her by the LOVE 101 family which included masters of ceremonies for the evening, Nadine Blair, Arnold Kelly and Marjorie Leyden-Vernon, JCDC's director of public relations. A special prayer for Robinson's quick recovery was also offered by Michael Schurton, Marketing Manager for LOVE 101 and president of Word Time Ministries of Jamaica.
The JCDC also used the opportunity to launch the 2002 Gospel Song competition which was done by minister of local Government, youth and Community development Arnold Bertram. The Gospel Songwriters' Showcase was presented by Life Productions in association with the JCDC. Associate sponsors included LOVE 101, Air Jamaica and the Hilton Hotel.

Mullen added her energetic and electrifying ministry to an excellent evening of worship and praise to God. The Gospel Songwriters Showcase staged by the JCDC reached a high point with a special tribute and prayer, during the staging of Nicole C. Word Time Ministries of Jamaica is a non-profit, youth organization which was founded for primarily for the purpose of distributing Bibles and other Christian literature to students of Primary, Junior High and All Age schools, Civic leaders and other individuals in need of the Word of God.
The Ministry was formed on October 25, 1994, by a small group of Jamaican Christian youth who are concerned about the decline of spiritual and social values among youth around the world and especially in Jamaica. The Ministry is also concerned about the proliferation of the use of drugs, guns and knives by students in schools.
Word Time Ministries of Jamaica started with an idea that there should be an organization which would distribute Bibles freely to young people especially students in schools, so as to influence their thoughts and actions thereby improving their moral and spiritual standards. The vision for establishing the organization also gave recognition to the fact that there is a crying need for many individuals, especially the nation’s youth to be guided by the word of God, and therefore needed personal copies of the Bible to acquire insight of the word and have a successful life.
Seed of faith
The seed of faith for the organization started on April 28, 1994, when one of the founding fathers of the Ministry Michael Schurton was invited to address the St. James 4-H club Annual Parish Achievement Day. In addressing 4-H Officials and Clubbites he stated that it was high time for Jamaicans to stop handing out drugs, guns, and knives to its young people. He stated that the nation's youth should instead be given Bibles; the greatest authority on morals, values and attitudes, which are needed to mould them into productive and useful citizens. On that day a student of Maldon Junior and Comprehensive High school Elaine Chambers of Summer Hill, Point P.O., St. James received a Bible from the founder.
Canadian connection
It was during a visit to Canada that visit that the idea of forming an organization to distribute Bibles to students, resurfaced. After prayerful consideration the name Word Time Ministries emerged. The main reason for the name surrounds the fact that, it is time for the word of God to be preached to all men and that it should be in the hands of individuals for them to study and learn about God. The organization's name also relates to the need for individuals to be guided by the Word of God, during these difficult times we are living in.
A number of persons also embraced the vision. These include Rev. Paul D. Gallimore, Rev. Gordon Evans, and Rev. Leo Robinson. A series of meetings were held to plan policies and to develop the organization's constitution and by-laws. The organization's account was opened at Mutual Security Bank - Sam Sharp Square, with five hundred dollars, which represented the small savings of the founder.
Official launch
The official launch of the organization was held on - Tuesday, October 25, 1994, under the theme “Use Me for Thy Glory” at the offices of Western Broadcasting Services Limited, Radio Waves, 37 St. James Street, Montego Bay. The installation ceremony of the National Executive Committee was held on Friday, December 9, 1994 at the Burchell Baptist Educational Centre under the theme "Seeking First the Kingdom of God".
On Friday, May 15, 1995, the founding chapter of the organization Word Time Ministries - St. James was officially launched under the theme -” Lord I Am Available”.
The launching ceremony was held at On Top of The Roof Restaurant now Bandanna Top Restaurant, located at 20 Market Street, Montego Bay, where fifteen persons attended. That evening a tag drive was also launched to raise funds to purchase Bibles and plans made for the first Bible presentation ceremony to be held at the Albion Primary and Junior High. The Bible Presentation Ceremony was held on July 13, 1995, where 35 eager students received Bibles. Principal of the school Mrs. Dorothy Smart stated that the Bibles presented were the best gift that the school has ever received.
With the work fully established in Western Jamaica a decision was taken to launch a chapter in Kingston to carry out the work of the ministry in the eastern region of the Island. The decision to establish the chapter in Kingston was influenced mainly by the overwhelming request for the work of the organization to touch the lives of the young people in eastern Jamaica.
Kingston welcomes Word Time
On Tuesday, December 5, 1995, the second chapter of the organization was launched. The official launching ceremony was held at the Webster Memorial United Church Hall, 12 Carlton Crescent, Kingston. Twenty five persons attended the launching ceremony which was held under the theme -”Walk By Faith, Not By Sight”.
The first Bible presentation ceremony by the newly formed chapter was set for Franklyn Town Primary, Franklyn Town, Eastern Kingston. However due to the temporary closure of the school, the decision was taken to host the inaugural Bible presentation ceremony at the Clan Carthy Primary, in Vineyard Town, Kingston on Friday, February 2, 1996.
An important national assignment was undertaken when the organization was specially invited by the Custos of St. Andrew, Rev. The Honourable Lois Carmen Stewart O.D. J.P., to present Bibles to the newly appointed Justices of the Peace for the parish of St. Andrew. The ceremony was held on Thursday, January 25, 1996, at the Saxthorpe Methodist Church Hall, Kingston. The presentation of Bibles to the Justices of the Peace, signalled a historic chapter in the nation's Judicial system.
On Friday, May 10, 1996, during child month, library books valued over Sixty Thousand Dollars ($60,000.00) were donated to the Windward Road All Age School, in Eastern Kingston. The donation of library books to the school's library was presented in association with the Rotary Club of Ottawa, Canada.
On Friday, October 25, 1996 the organization celebrated its Second Anniversary, with a special Bible presentation ceremony. The Bible presentation ceremony was held at the Howard Cooke Primary School, Montego Bay, St. James. The guest speaker was the Governor General of Jamaica, The Most Honourable, Sir Howard Cooke. The Governor General in his address, expressed his support for the work of the ministry and stated that Schools in Jamaica should benefit from a Bible presentation ceremony each week.
Wednesday, April 30, 1997 the ministry once again accepted an important national assignment by the Custos of St. Catherine, The Honorable Gladstone Lewars J.P., to present Bibles to the newly appointed Justices of the Peace for the parish of St. Catherine. The ceremony was held at the Spanish Town Methodist Church Hall, St. Catherine. The inaugural Child month Bible presentation ceremony and Visitation took place at the Walker's Place of Safety, Saturday, May 17, 1997, under the theme "Caring For Tomorrow's Future Today".
Incorporation of the organization
One of the most significant development since the organization was founded on Tuesday, October 25, 1994 was the incorporation of the organization. The organization was incorporated under the laws of Jamaica as a limited Company on Friday, June 13, 1997.
The organization's first National Convention was held on Sunday, August 30, 1997, under the theme "Grant Me Life To Declare Thy Word". This convention was held at the Oneness Apostolic Assembly of Jesus Christ. The Bustamante Hospital for Children was the venue for the Ministry's inaugural hospital visitation and Bible presentation ceremony held Sunday, September 28, 1997.
On Sunday, October 19, 1997 the organization celebrated its 3RD Anniversary with a Thanksgiving Service at the Pentecostal Gospel Temple, 111 Windward Road and a Bible presentation ceremony on Friday, October 24 at the Half Way Tree Primary School, Kingston.
The story of the Ministry is one that is based on faith and a commitment to service. We have committed ourselves to spread the gospel of Jesus and to make the difference with the living word. We are persuaded that we will accomplish our goals and our work will be a blessing to the nation’s youth and other individuals in need of the word of God.

What is Word Time Ministries of Jamaica?
Word Time Ministries of Jamaica is a non-profit, youth organization, which was established out of a burning desire to share the Living Word of God with others through the free distribution of Bibles and the teaching of God’s Holy Word to individuals. The Ministry was also founded in obedience to the great commission to “go therefore into all the world”. The Ministry’s purpose is also to care for the spiritual, emotional, physical and social needs of the marginalized, vulnerable, the disposed and the loss. The Ministry targets the nation’s youth that are at risk and who need to be guided by the Word of God to be able to face the challenges of life and to cope with society’s ills by the application of Godly principles. The vision is for young people of faith to influence the lives of other young people with the living word of God and through the engagement of practical ministry.
When was the Ministry Established?
Word Time Ministries of Jamaica was founded on Tuesday, October 25, 1994, in Montego Bay, St. James, Jamaica.
What is the Role of the Ministry?
The organization also seeks to address physical and social needs existing within the framework of schools and institution for children such as drug abuse, violence and lack of spiritual guidance and values. The Ministry’s special outreach programme is extended to hospitals, children's homes, churches and other institutions.
Who is the main focus of the Ministry?
Jesus Christ is the main focus of the ministry. The ministry is committed to presenting Jesus Christ as the Saviour and Lord to the nation's youth, encouraging them to read and study God's Word and to make a personal commitment to have Jesus Christ as their personal Lord and Saviour.
Why are we involved in this work?
Our involvement in this outreach work is in obedience of the command to carry out the great commission of Matthew 28:19, "Go therefore and teach all nations..."
Motivated by love, endued with the power of the Holy Spirit and graced by the character of service, we boldly go forward in the mighty name of Jesus. We strive to answer the cries and anguish of the nation's youth; our future and our heritage.
Who manages the affairs of the Ministry?
The Board of Directors has its primary responsibilities for the general direction and control of the Ministry. The Board of Directors is empowered to make policies, which will seek to sustain, develop and create growth for the Ministry. The Board of Directors acts for and on behalf of the entire membership and performs numerous functions in the execution of its duties. The Board of Directors establishes, develops and approves policies for the Ministry. Policies are review periodically to be current and relevant in keeping with the operation and also provide the general direction of the Ministry
The Board of Directors authorizes the National Executive Committee (NEC) to administer the organization’s affairs; carry out the administrative and operational functions and act on behalf of the Board of Directors in all matters in which the National Executive Committee is competent and authorized to act. The National Executive Board is responsible for managing the affairs of the Ministry consistent with its policies, mission, objectives and goals.
The Board of Directors appoints The National Executive Committee, which comprises the National President, General Secretary, Vice Presidents and Ministerial Directors, senior members of the Ministry appointed to the committee and the executive members of the Youth Board. The National Executive Committee in responsible for the planning, implementation and control of outreach, events, projects and any other duties so assigned by the Board. The National Executive Committee comprises a number of ministries and sub-committees with respective portfolios. The National Executive Committee is the highest decision body of the Ministry outside of the Board of Directors.

The members of the Ministry are young people of faith who believe each person can make a difference. We are from various communities, schools, places of employment, and churches. We are unique in our own ways with varying backgrounds, training, and experience. Despite our different personalities, we are one spirit and in Lord. We share one vision and one purpose. We speak in one voice with the power of God. We profess one faith and pursue one desire, that of glorifying God and serving Him with a pure heart. We are dedicated Christians who believe in the entire Bible, have Jesus as the head and leader of everything thing that we do and our mission is based on the life transforming Word of God. We are dedicated, creative, and innovative in promoting spiritual and social values. We recognize that we have a personal commitment to Jesus Christ and therefore maintain individuality in our Christian walk and the fulfilling of our personal ministry. We are a happy band of young people in the Ministry and are seeking to inspire positive attitudes in our society, by developing a greater appreciation for the word of God.
What is the aim of the Ministry’s work?
Our work aims at reaching the hearts and minds of the nation’s youth with the life changing word of God. Promoting spiritual values therein is the heartbeat of our mission. Our work is a tangible one, that of distributing Bibles. Our service is both tangible and intangible as we seek to make positive changes to the lives and character of people and to care for their physical and emotional needs.
Why focus on young people?
Young people are bombarded with many pressures. Many of the nation’s youth are affected by a range of things from drugs, abuse, gun related and other crimes, to neglect and a lack of spiritual guidance.
Why do young people need spiritual guidance?
Many young people feel all alone and sometimes have no support from family, friends, and their peers. A large number of young people feel that there is no hope, no love and no one to care, and so are even contemplating suicide, while some have even attempted. Satan is raging a war against our children and is trying to corrupt and influence their thoughts and actions. They need spiritual and social values to fortify them from society's ills and the moral decadence that exist in homes, schools and communities.
Does the Ministry provide the avenue for young people to reach others?
Word Time Ministries provide committed Christian youth with the opportunity to share the gospel individually and collectively with students. The ministry is committed to raging war on the plans of Satan with the love of God and the power of His holy Word and to rescue young people from the clutches of evil and moral decadence. The Ministry is aiming to provide training to our members in the basic ministry skills of prayer, evangelism, discipleship and leadership training. The Ministry is committed to spiritual and social service to the nation. This is accomplished through Bible distribution, practical ministry at children’s home, visit to the sick and afflicted at hospitals, and staging of evangelistic services in schools. In additional there is the distribution of foods, clothing and other supplies to the needy. Foremost among this service is the faithful and fervent prayers for the nation by the entire membership.

What is Word Time Ministries of Jamaica?
Word Time Ministries of Jamaica is a non-profit, youth organization, which was established out of a burning desire to share the Living Word of God with others through the free distribution of Bibles and the teaching of God’s Holy Word to individuals. The Ministry was also founded in obedience to the great commission to “go therefore into all the world”. The Ministry’s purpose is also to care for the spiritual, emotional, physical and social needs of the marginalized, vulnerable, the disposed and the loss. The Ministry targets the nation’s youth that are at risk and who need to be guided by the Word of God to be able to face the challenges of life and to cope with society’s ills by the application of Godly principles. The vision is for young people of faith to influence the lives of other young people with the living word of God and through the engagement of practical ministry.
When was the Ministry Established?
Word Time Ministries of Jamaica was founded on Tuesday, October 25, 1994, in Montego Bay, St. James, Jamaica.
What is the Role of the Ministry?
The organization also seeks to address physical and social needs existing within the framework of schools and institution for children such as drug abuse, violence and lack of spiritual guidance and values. The Ministry’s special outreach programme is extended to hospitals, children's homes, churches and other institutions.
Who is the main focus of the Ministry?
Jesus Christ is the main focus of the ministry. The ministry is committed to presenting Jesus Christ as the Saviour and Lord to the nation's youth, encouraging them to read and study God's Word and to make a personal commitment to have Jesus Christ as their personal Lord and Saviour.
Why are we involved in this work?
Our involvement in this outreach work is in obedience of the command to carry out the great commission of Matthew 28:19, "Go therefore and teach all nations..."
Motivated by love, endued with the power of the Holy Spirit and graced by the character of service, we boldly go forward in the mighty name of Jesus. We strive to answer the cries and anguish of the nation's youth; our future and our heritage.
Who manages the affairs of the Ministry?
The Board of Directors has its primary responsibilities for the general direction and control of the Ministry. The Board of Directors is empowered to make policies, which will seek to sustain, develop and create growth for the Ministry. The Board of Directors acts for and on behalf of the entire membership and performs numerous functions in the execution of its duties. The Board of Directors establishes, develops and approves policies for the Ministry. Policies are review periodically to be current and relevant in keeping with the operation and also provide the general direction of the Ministry
The Board of Directors authorizes the National Executive Committee (NEC) to administer the organization’s affairs; carry out the administrative and operational functions and act on behalf of the Board of Directors in all matters in which the National Executive Committee is competent and authorized to act. The National Executive Board is responsible for managing the affairs of the Ministry consistent with its policies, mission, objectives and goals.
The Board of Directors appoints The National Executive Committee, which comprises the National President, General Secretary, Vice Presidents and Ministerial Directors, senior members of the Ministry appointed to the committee and the executive members of the Youth Board. The National Executive Committee in responsible for the planning, implementation and control of outreach, events, projects and any other duties so assigned by the Board. The National Executive Committee comprises a number of ministries and sub-committees with respective portfolios. The National Executive Committee is the highest decision body of the Ministry outside of the Board of Directors.

History of Word Time Ministries
Word Time Ministries of Jamaica is a registered non-profit youth organization which was founded on Tuesday, October 25, 1994, by a small group of concerned Jamaican youth primarily for the purpose of reaching out to young people in schools. The ministry then started its character development programme launched through a Bible distribution campaign and devotions in schools. The Ministry has also identified and addressed other social issues which exist in hospitals, Children’s Homes and other institutions.

Outreach and Impact
To date the Ministry has touched the lives of thousands of students and other individuals across Jamaica. This level of outreach by a small group of ordinary young people is a testimony that the Ministry is endeavouring to play its part in nation building by promoting spiritual and social values, and effecting positive change in the lives of individuals. Bibles and other Christian literature valued over three million dollars have been distributed by the youth Ministry.
New Frontiers
Since March 2001 the Ministry sought to extend its outreach programme by adopting the Jamaica Christian Boy’s Home in Kingston, Jamica. During the year the institution has benefited from various activities including a back-to-school concert, Easter programme, two major fun days, and other special visits coupled with the donation of food, clothing, text and trade books and other supplies. Through the adoption of the home, the Ministry through its monthly programmes has effected positive changes to the lives of these boys by sharing Christ, providing positive role models, encouraging them to achieve their full potentials, promoting Christian values and providing an outlet for social interactions. We therefore believe that the Ministry has made a great difference in the lives of many individuals across Jamaica and the Caribbean through the extension of spiritual and social service by the ministry.

Cockburn Gardens Primary School gets Bibles

Students of the Cockburn Gardens Primary and Junior High School in Kingston, Jamaica were recipients of Bibles from Word Time Ministries of Jamaica during a special 7th Anniversary Bible Presentation Ceremony held at the school in Kingston recently.
The Bible presentation under the theme "Learning The Word For Success" was staged in collaboration with the Love Singers, one of the nation's leading gospel group also celebrating 20 years of service to Jamaica.
Bibles Presented
Representatives from all twenty four grades of the Institution received Bibles on behalf of their respective classes, while a number of selected students were given personal copies. Additionally 100 students received scripture text calendars, and 420 students recieved of devotional guides. The Bible Presentation Ceremony forms part of an on-going campaign by Word Time Ministries of Jamaica in its efforts to promote spiritual values and attitudes among the nation's youth through the reading, studying and application of the Bible.
Principal of the school Ms. B. Yvonnie Davis in her reaction to the presentation stated that it was a welcomed and worthy idea that an organisation of young people are using the Bible as the basis for the promotion of values in the society. "It is elating and inspiring that as young people you are making such a positive contribution to society. Students are always appreciative of gifts. But these Bibles are a blessing from above and will help change the lives of the students," she said.
Ms. Davis also stated that the school has daily devotions and many students attend without a Bible. "We definitely need the Bibles for the daily devotions and for religious education in order to mould the lives of the students. She added that the Bible is also used as a regular reading material and it is therefore fitting that the Word Time Ministries presents Bible to students in schools across Jamaica. She also said "Bible reading is an integral part of the school life, although not practice on a large scale, due to the lack of Bibles. These Bibles will make a great start as every class will have it's own copy," she emphasised.
RESTORATION
President of Word Time Ministries of Jamaica Michael Schurton in his address stated that the nation was at a point of crises and that the nation is in urgent need of restoration, which can be achieved with the living word of God. He said that restoration of the nation will begin when its people turn to the Bible and study and practice the directions, values and commands that are found in its pages. Mr. Schurton said, "I strongly believe that every child needs to have a personal copy of the Bible to learn of its teachings and therefore become a confident, productive and useful citizen.
FAMILY
He also noted that in the present failing family structure the Bible is absent from the homes and the absence contributes to the deterioration of family life and hence national development is affected. Mr. Schurton who is also the Marketing Manager for Love FM, made a passionate plea for Bible reading to become the centre of the family activities.
"It's high time that the Bile be placed upon the family table again, and the reading and studying of the Bible become the centre of activities for the home" Schurton said.
Guest speaker at the Bible Presentation Ceremony was Evangelist Michael McIntosh, who is also a member of the Love Singers. Michael McIntosh in his address to students said that the students are important individuals who must learn what the right things are and endeavour to do the right things to reap success. He noted that many in our society today, including musicians, sports persons and others claim to have the right messages for our young people, but these messages are affecting them in a negative way. He implored the students to get the right messages about their lives, how to live and how to be successful from the best source, the Bible.
Over one thousand students of the school lifted their voices in singing the songs by the Love Singers, on the nation's leading award winning gospel group, also celebrating 20 years of performance and recording on the Jamaica gospel scene. The extraordinary Nicole Robinson, 2001 JCDC gospel song winner also gave a superb performance capturing the hearts of the students with her song "Extraordinary God". Also participating in the song ministry Annoleah Reid.
Carlene McFarlane, Youth President of the Ministry rendered a beautiful poem titled, "Time To Arise", written by Matisse Lindo. The students came alive as the Shakina Glory dance group from Kintyre did the piece "Free".
Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Ministry Rev. Yvonne Dixon, in bringing greetings on behalf of the Ministry urged the students to give their lives to Jesus and let him direct their actions, decision and choices. She also offered commendation to the Ministry of the celebrating of its 7th anniversary. Rev. Dixon who is also Pastor of the Oneness Apostolic Church, located in Sydenham, St. Catherine also participated in the ceremony by presenting Bibles to students.
Word Time Ministries is a non-profit youth organisation which was founded primarily for the distribution of Bibles and other Christian Literature among students in Primary, All Age and Junior High Schools as well as Civic Leaders. To-date the Ministry has distributed Bibles and religious tracts costing over one million dollars to students in Jamaica, the Caribbean and the United States as part of the organisation's effort to provide spiritual guidance to students.
The Bible presentation ceremony which is one of the highlights of the Ministry's 7th Anniversary attracted corporate sponsorship from the Bible Society of the West Indies, Love FM, and Sam Wisdom Music Stores.

Students of the Cockburn Gardens Primary and Junior High School in Kingston, Jamaica were recipients of Bibles from Word Time Ministries of Jamaica during a special 7th Anniversary Bible Presentation Ceremony held at the school in Kingston recently.
The Bible presentation under the theme "Learning The Word For Success" was staged in collaboration with the Love Singers, one of the nation's leading gospel group also celebrating 20 years of service to Jamaica.
Bibles Presented
Representatives from all twenty four grades of the Institution received Bibles on behalf of their respective classes, while a number of selected students were given personal copies. Additionally 100 students received scripture text calendars, and 420 students recieved of devotional guides. The Bible Presentation Ceremony forms part of an on-going campaign by Word Time Ministries of Jamaica in its efforts to promote spiritual values and attitudes among the nation's youth through the reading, studying and application of the Bible.
Principal of the school Ms. B. Yvonnie Davis in her reaction to the presentation stated that it was a welcomed and worthy idea that an organisation of young people are using the Bible as the basis for the promotion of values in the society. "It is elating and inspiring that as young people you are making such a positive contribution to society. Students are always appreciative of gifts. But these Bibles are a blessing from above and will help change the lives of the students," she said.
Ms. Davis also stated that the school has daily devotions and many students attend without a Bible. "We definitely need the Bibles for the daily devotions and for religious education in order to mould the lives of the students. She added that the Bible is also used as a regular reading material and it is therefore fitting that the Word Time Ministries presents Bible to students in schools across Jamaica. She also said "Bible reading is an integral part of the school life, although not practice on a large scale, due to the lack of Bibles. These Bibles will make a great start as every class will have it's own copy," she emphasised.
RESTORATION
President of Word Time Ministries of Jamaica Michael Schurton in his address stated that the nation was at a point of crises and that the nation is in urgent need of restoration, which can be achieved with the living word of God. He said that restoration of the nation will begin when its people turn to the Bible and study and practice the directions, values and commands that are found in its pages. Mr. Schurton said, "I strongly believe that every child needs to have a personal copy of the Bible to learn of its teachings and therefore become a confident, productive and useful citizen.
FAMILY
He also noted that in the present failing family structure the Bible is absent from the homes and the absence contributes to the deterioration of family life and hence national development is affected. Mr. Schurton who is also the Marketing Manager for Love FM, made a passionate plea for Bible reading to become the centre of the family activities.
"It's high time that the Bile be placed upon the family table again, and the reading and studying of the Bible become the centre of activities for the home" Schurton said.
Guest speaker at the Bible Presentation Ceremony was Evangelist Michael McIntosh, who is also a member of the Love Singers. Michael McIntosh in his address to students said that the students are important individuals who must learn what the right things are and endeavour to do the right things to reap success. He noted that many in our society today, including musicians, sports persons and others claim to have the right messages for our young people, but these messages are affecting them in a negative way. He implored the students to get the right messages about their lives, how to live and how to be successful from the best source, the Bible.

The powerful and prayerful entry aptly entitled Praise, written and performed by Kevin Downswell, held the number one position at the 2003 Jamaica Cultural Development Commission's Gospel Finals at the Ranny Williams Entertainment Centre, Hope Road, St. Andrew on Sunday, July 27, 2003.
The 22-year-old Downswell, a second-year Biochemistry student at the University of the West Indies, walked away with a $150,000 cash prize, the Jamaica Cultural Development Commission's trophy and two Air Jamaica tickets to a destination of his choice. He also pocketed the prize for 'Best Performance'. After his compelling set it was only a question of who would be the runners-up.
Sandy Smith with Crazy won second place and the Word Time Ministries of Jaamica Trophy and Kerron Ennis with No Wonder placed third and won the Michael Schurton Trophy. Smith took home $75,000, an Air Jamaica ticket to a destination of her choice and a trophy while Ennis got $50,000 and a trophy.
In the first presentation of the finalists, they did a cover of a song of their choice, before reappearing to deliver their original entry. Kevin rendered the popular His Eye Is On The Sparrow. He began singing from backstage in a solemn tone with lights off. Then, when it seemed as if that would be the pace for his presentation he switched gears and broke into a spirited praise and worship tempo.
Kevin, decked out in a full-white jacket suit, seemed to have saved the best for last. His rendition of his original entry Praise raised the roof at the open-air venue. He gave the audience encouraging words, telling them that their victory over any trial rests in their praise.
Second-place Sandy, who was seventh in the line-up of contestants, delivered a message to the body of Christ with an up tempo version of Wounded Soldier. The sweet Sandy, who was elegantly adorned in purple, received backing from a few persons who stood throughout her performance.
Sandy, who was baptised at age 12, subsequently returned and did her entry Crazy, a song that addressed her detractors who she says told her 'she was loco' to have given her life to Christ at such a tender age.
Soon to be 21 years old, Kerron Ennis had the crowd 'mashing up dem boot heel' with an effervescent cover of We Come Here to Praise Him. Most of the patrons stood to their feet and waved their rags in support of Ms Ennis. She also delivered well with her original entry, which spoke of the efficacious sacrifice of the only Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ.
Other wonderful performances came from Shelly-Ann Watson, who is a member of the Shiloh Apostolic Church in Manchester. Her first delivery was Ordinary Servant which received an extraordinary reception from the audience. Armed with a beautiful voice and a heart of worship, she won the hearts of the patrons.
On another given Sunday, her original entry You've Got to Believe could have been named among the top three. The song for which she owns writer's credit had optimistic words that could soothe the hearts and minds of saints.
The event, which climaxed just before 11:30 p.m., saw guest performances from Papa San, last year's winner Shane Wright, Noreta Lewis and a few others. The MCs, Jenny Jenny and Nadine Blair, did a superb job.

Garfield Reid showed everyone present at the Grace Tropical Rhythms Jamaica Gospel Song Competition 2007 on Sunday night the ‘Signs of the Times’.
Sunday July 24, 2007 saw a spectacular array of talent at the finals show of the Jamaica Cultural Development Commission (JCDC) Jamaica Gospel Song Competition 2007, with Garfield Reid emerged as the winner with his song ‘Signs of the Times’.
Garfield Reid, the winner of the JCDC Gospel Song Competition, gladly accepted his cheque for $400,000.00 and the JCDC's Jamaica Gospel Song Trophy. Held at the National Indoor Sports the Golden Touch Band added their touch to the evening, helping each performer sound and look their best.
Third-placed Courtney Cooke, among other prizes, was awarded a cash prize of $150,000, the Michael Schurton Trophy and an artiste development grant valued at $30,000. Antoinette Bradshaw, in second was awarded $200,000.00, the Word Time Ministries of Jamaica Trophy and an artiste development grant along with other awards
Special Guests artistes Jermaine Edwards and Papa San both gave excellent performances sending the audience in a frenzy of praise and worship. Clive Warren, the 2006 Gospel Song Winner, also performed.
The finalists gave the audience a taste of what was to come with their warm up songs. After a 15-minute intermission, it was time for the main event.
Shelly-Ann Watson ministered energetically with her original ‘Year of the Church’, after which Hugh Miller gave a well-done rendition of his song ‘Blessed Is The Man.’ Sushann Holmes followed with her original, ‘You Still Care’, and then came Leon Denton with ‘Lead Me Home’.
‘Mek me take off me glasses so me can see you better!” said Courtney Cooke as he came onstage to give an excellent performance of his song ‘Gimme Pass’. Clad in the national colours, Natalder Butler then performed her song ‘Breakthrough’. What seemed to be a true-life story was Antoinette Bradshaw’s song ‘Completely’ was surely a heartfelt song for both her and the audience.
Antoinette Brad-shaw with Completely thoroughly ministered to the crowd. Her personal testimony, coupled with her amazing voice, lifted her performance from the ordinary. But in an evening when all finalists held their own, possessing remarkable talent and with a smooth well-planned show, very little could have been described as ordinary. The winner and most outstanding performer Garfield Reid walk away with cash and prizes amounting to over $500,000. Reid closed the event with an encore performance of ‘Signs of The Times’.
Nolan Brown was in full army gear for his very fitting song, ‘Armour’. Elect was up next with ‘Redeemer, Redeeming The Time’. Last but not least was Garfield Reid, whose creativity stood out, being the only performer with a dancer.

Gamel Grant emerged winner of the 2009 Grace Tropical Rhythms Jamaica Festival Gospel Song competition held at the Ranny Williams Entertainment Centre, Kingston, Jamaica.
On Sunday August 2, 2009, Gamel Grant won the Jamaica Gospel Song 2K9 competition with his song Take Me to Jesus. However, it was second-placed Kimiela Issacs who seemed to have won the hearts of the crowd (even outside her substantial core support that hooted at every mention of her name).
So after an effervescent André Wright had blown a flurry of kisses into the air, giving thanks to the crowd on the ground and the 'Big Man' up above for his third- placed Man O God, there were screams when Issacs' Reassurance was announced for second place.
But there was a noticeably more muted response when the winner was announced, and two very enthusiastic men - one with a megaphone and the other with a pair of Dutch pot covers - led a mini-exodus from the rear right of the audience, their accessories silent. That is, until the megaphone toter shouted "dat no fair!" into his tool of vocal amplification.
That did not, naturally, affect Grant's delivery of his winning entry, or subtract a cent from his $500,000 winning cheque, that a part of a winner's package with several other prizes. Nor did it prevent a large section of the audience showing the winner respect by standing and dancing as he delivered the top song.

Kimola Brown, who entered Sen' Down and also enjoyed a loud cheering section at Ranny Williams on Sunday night, was another contestant to get some cash in hand, earning $10,000 for showing the most care and concern for and encouraging her fellow finalists. Nickette Morgan's supporters hollered when she nabbed Most Popular Vote.
The sound was excellent (and since most of the entries were reggae or dancehall, the bass was carried deep and clear) and the stage decor simple but effective, a stained-glass window design projected on the large back-drop, before which the band was in good nick.
The first guest performer, Jabez, hit the spot with the crowd, saving I'm Drinking From My Saucer for last to have the crowd lapping up his music ministry. When the RB Gospel Singers, placed in the hot spot just before the results were announced, was introduced, there was no response to indicate recognition or enthusiasm.
By the time the uniformly yellow and black clad group had ended with their uptempo stint with a rousing, very recognisable version of Psalms 23, the lead singer punching with her right first towards the crowd to emphasise the line "hol' on to yu victory Christian", the entire house was standing and dancing.
